Habakkuk 2:14 proclaims that God will cover the earth with the knowledge of the glory of God as the water covers the sea. The knowledge of the glory of God is Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6) and when His name is proclaimed in all places everywhere, all people will know through Jesus they can be saved. God proclaims through the Apostle John that one day, a multitude too numerous to count, from every nation, tribe, people group, and language, will stand before the throne and before the Lamb and Praise Him.
Our goal is to envision churches with God’s vision and to assist and partner with those who wish to obey. We want to help those who will obey work toward fulfilling God’s Vision for the whole world. The following are the strategies and principles that we have found in the example and teachings of Jesus Christ and the Apostles for covering unengaged and unreached people groups and areas.
In order to engage the U.U.P.G or a M.U.A, you must first survey. First, enter a targeted area to find such information as where are the U.U.P.Gs, the population size, receptiveness, and any other pertinent information about targeted group or region. It is also important for you to seek out any potential partners (Believers and churches) that are already in the targeted area. These churches or believers might serve as partners that you can train to help you as you engage the area or U.U.P.G.
After the survey, we need to make a strategic plan. Where are we going, who are we trying to engage, who will go, when we will go, and what will we need are some of the questions we need to ask ourselves in order to make the plan.
Jesus said that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Then he commanded us to pray to the Lord of the harvest for more workers. In order to engage all the U.U.P.Gs and the M.U.As in the world, we need more workers. Specifically, we need workers amongst the U.U.P.G itself or from the M.U.A itself in order to most effectively ‘cover’ that people group or area. So, as Jesus commanded us we should pray that God would raise up workers from the targeted people group or area before ‘entering’ and putting our coverage plan into action.
As we enter a new town or village, we pray and bless the town and the people we meet with the peace of Jesus Christ. As we move from door to door, we are looking for the person that God has already prepared. We have to remember, we cannot convince someone to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We acknowledge all authority to God the Father and look for the ‘person of peace’ whom God has already prepared for us. The ‘person of peace’ is someone who response positively to the gospel, someone who offers us a safe place to stay and their hospitality, and someone who will gather their family, friends, relatives, and neighbors. They are much like Matthew the tax collector, the Samaritan woman, or Cornelius. They all gathered their family, relatives, or their neighbors so that they too can hear the gospel.
Pastor Jeeva was working to reach the Garudiya unengaged, unreached people group. The Garudiya people group did not have a single church nor a single pastor working among them. They surveyed different parts of Gujarat and found the Garudiya people group, and Pastor Jeeva went to share the gospel with them using the evangelism booklet. As they were going from home to home, they met a Garudiya woman. Her family had no hope, no peace, and no joy. Her husband was an alcoholic and was physically abusive whenever he got drunk. He would beat her daily and she slept every night crying and weeping.
As they shared the gospel, she was resistant at first and said that she didn’t want to learn about Jesus. But Pastor Jeeva and his team were persistent. They offered to pray that Jesus would restore the peace in her family daily. To her amazement, she saw that Pastor Jeeva’s prayers were working and her husband was starting to show signs of change. Her husband stopped drinking and stopped abusing her. The whole family was happy. She knew that it was due to Pastor Jeeva’s prayers and she invited Pastor Jeeva and his fellow pastors to her home, and she gathered her family. They shared the gospel with the whole family and they joyfully accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. The woman and this family did not have any hope, any peace, but Jesus brought hope and peace to their home. In the same way, because the Garudiya were an unengaged, unreached people group, they had no eternal hope. Through the woman’s family, there is a house church where people are sharing the gospel among the Garudiya people group today.
When the ‘person of peace’ has gathered his or her family, friends, relatives, and/or neighbors, we share with them the peace of Jesus Christ. We share with them our life story of how we now live with this heavenly peace. To do this, we share briefly what our lives were like before we met Jesus Christ. Then we share about how we met Christ. Lastly, we share about the peace and joy we now live with in Christ. Religion does not give us hope and eternal life. Only Jesus can do this. We are not offering them the religion of Christianity but the person of Jesus Christ, and the hope and peace they will find in Him.
When they are ready to receive this peace, we share with the gospel. God is the creator of all things and we are His Creation. He loves us so much and He wants to spend all eternity with Him as well as give us an abundant life here on earth. However, because of sin, we are separated from God. We cannot receive the blessing God has in store us. Not only that, we are all destined for death and for eternal punishment in hell. But because God so loved the world, He sent his one and only Son Jesus Christ. He died for our sins and resurrected from the dead. Those who believe in Him can be united with God once again and receive the eternal life and the abundant life God has for us all. We can only return to God the Father through Jesus Christ, because He is the only one who died for our sins.
We offer this basic message of hope and ask if they want to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Those who accept Jesus as their Lord, we stay with them and teach them the basic commands of Jesus. We also teach them from the very beginning how to share the gospel themselves, and encourage to go to their relatives and neighbors.
When they accept Jesus, we also baptize them, collect an offering, and designate a leader. In essence, we form the church the same day we share the gospel with the people that has gathered. We visit them weekly and contact them several times throughout the weeks to encourage the people, especially the leaders, to remain faithful to Jesus. When they gather, we are there to teach them how to lead a worship, how to pray, how to study the bible, and how to be a church. We continue to teach them the word of God and encourage them to obey.
As the church and believers grow in the Lord and as they are obeying Jesus’ command to go and make disciples, we continue to teach, train, and equip the workers to become better workers for Jesus. Some of the trainings that we are implementing regularly are the One Day Evangelism and Church Formation Training, the Five Day House Church Pastors Training, and the One Month Coverage Coordinator Training. We are also conducting internships and training for native pastors to take steps outside their countries to become missionaries themselves.
Furthermore, not only are we training workers out of pastors and believers, but we are producing trainers who will train others. That is the main and final goal for our training. We have to produce trainers who will produce other trainers. This way, we can quickly develop more workers to fully cover the targeted U.U.P.G or the M.U.A. More trainers and workers must be produced from the U.U.P.G and M.U.A itself in order to most effectively cover them.
As the churches and workers we have produced in the targeted area develop and grow in maturity, they should be mobilized to reach the unreached themselves. Those from the U.U.P.Gs and M.U. As who are being developed and trained are our disciples; just as we are Jesus’ disciples. And just as we follow Jesus’ examples and the examples of the Apostles, our disciples should follow our examples (1 Corinthians 11:1). As we are engaging U.U.P.Gs and M.U.As, the churches and the workers that we produced should do the same; whether it is engaged others in their own U.U.P.Gs and M.U.As or even beyond.
Case Study: India
INDIA has a population of 1.25 billion. It is the second largest population of the world. Most project that India would soon become the 1st in world population as early as 2020. India is also a quickly developing super power in the world. Some think tanks has predicted that by the year 2050, India would be the world’s #1 Superpower, surpassing both the United States and China.
According to India’s 2011 government census, India’s population is made up of 79.8% Hindus, 14.2% Muslims, and 2.3% Christians. The remaining 3.7% are Sikhs and other religions. India also has the highest concentration of U.U.P.Gs living in the world. Because of India's potential, and with over a billion lost people and the largest concentration of U.U.P.Gs, India is an important country to cover with the Glory of God.
That is why an Assembly of Churches was formed in 2010. They have been working tirelessly to reach the most unreached areas and the U.U.P.Gs of India since 2010. Each year, all the state coordinating pastors gather in Delhi to give report, to pray, and to set new goals for the coming year. They return home and mobilize all pastors, all workers, and all believers to share the gospel with their neighbors, relatives, and friends. They use Jesus calendars and evangelism booklets to present all people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. All pastors and believers are mobilized all year long, but there is a major push for evangelism around Christmas.
As the only holiday recognized by all people in India, all pastors, workers, and believers are encouraged to visit their family, relatives, friends, neighbors, and anyone around them to bless them with the peace of Jesus Christ. All believers are trained and mobilized to go, and through their social web churches can reach the people in their own villages as well as reach nearby villages without churches. Jesus is the prince of peace and He is only one who can restore the true heavenly peace in the lives of those who are lost, confused, sick, poor, and hungry. Only He can give peace to the heart of the young people struggling with anxiety about their future. Individuals, families, and entire villages are blessed with the peace of Jesus Christ during this time. We call this ‘the Blessing Peace Project’. Through the ‘Blessing Peace Project’, the distribution of Jesus Calendars, and using the evangelism booklets, the Assembly in India were able to share the gospel to over 10 million families.by the end of 2014. In 2015, they set a new goal to share the gospel with 6 million families. It is God who proclaimed that he would cover the earth with His glory and He will fulfill His Vision through His Church. The Assembly in India is doing their part to cover India. They are applying the coverage strategy and obeying Jesus’ call to go to the lost people of their country.
Evangelism is not the final goal. We want to finish the task of covering all places everywhere in the world. This means we need to visit all villages everywhere to bless everyone with the gospel; not only in India, but the whole world. This is the only way we can fulfill God’s Vision to cover the world with the knowledge of the Glory of God (Habakkuk 2:14). In order to do this, we need more workers. The Harvest is plenty all over the world, but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37). That’s why our goal is to plant churches in empty villages and raise up workers from that village and amongst the U.U.P.Gs we are targeting. After five years, God has built a church with a principle of reaching the lost people everywhere. Currently (2015), the Indian Assembly has 32,144,016 Baptized believers, 64,869 House Churches, 1994 Local Churches, 522 Registered Churches, and 124 Center Churches all over India that are working toward covering India and working toward sending missionaries everywhere. When the people of God truly obeys the teaching and commands of Jesus Christ, God moves in miraculous way.
